  1. Barcelona is the capital and the most populous city of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid. Barcelona is today one of the world's leading tourist, economic and cultural-sports centers, and its influences in commerce, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities. Main sights are the Barri Gòtic ("Gothic Quarter" in Catalan) is the centre of the old city of Barcelona. Especially remarkable is the work of architect Antoni Gaudí, which can be seen throughout the city. His best known work is the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Família, which has been under construction since 1882, and is still financed by private donations. As of 2007, completion is planned for 2026. Carrer del Bisbe in the Gothic quarter. The Cathedral of St. Eulalia. Parc Güell. Barceloneta beach. The Arc de Triomf. Statue of Christopher Columbus. The Palau Nacional, which houses the MNAC. Port Vell Aerial Tramway. Casa Milà (La Pedrera), etc.
